Barbel at the 'Green'

Here's one of the articles that was written a couple of seasons ago, but, with the technical problems we had on the old site, was never published.

Four members of the group have been testing their skills against the barbel at Fishers Green.. and with information being shared between them the results have been quite impressive! Here's each member's veiwpoint on some of the catches...

Bob's story

Saltwater Obsession

 hspace=

The first sea fish I ever caught was a garfish, so the salty seed was sown decades ago but it lay dormant until I started fishing Long Island Sound and was introduced to striped bass and bluefish. Billfish and tuna followed, but at the end of the road lay a flyrod and attached to that rod was a spectre, a ghost, a grey ghost - the bonefish.

My first encounter was on the amazing flats of St Francois, they were breath taking in their power and beauty. Yet it wasn t the bonefish that really blew me away it was the other inhabitants of the flats, and in particular the trevally. Now I'd caught these on conventional gear and appreciated their fight, but to tangle with them on a flyrod was a whole new world, a world where obsessive / compulsive behaviour is the norm and nothing else matters. I sit here today, the sun is shining I have fine fishing literally outside the door but I dream longingly of sand in my boots, the fly line ripping through the guides and only the wind for company. The flats are a starkly beautiful environment, a place where the sea blends with the sky and sense of creation envelopes you.

Welcome

Welcome to The Osprey Specimen Group

The Osprey Specimen Group was formed in Autumn 2003 following the dissolution of the RMC Angling Specimen Group.

Our members enjoy pursuing specimen sized fish of most species, at all types of venues.

The group currently has around 35 members with specialists in most angling disciplines.

We have a lively and educational website, where members can put up their thoughts, problems, or experiences, and know they'll get a barrage of good natured reposts, that will normally help, but will always be fun!

The group usually hold a few 'fish-ins' each year, to target different species and experience new venues, and we also produce within the group, a quarterly newsletter about members activities.

If you have the same feelings for your pastime as we do, and think joining us could have mutual benefits for us all, why not contact us for more information about The Osprey Specimen Group, please email This email address is being protected from spam bots, you need Javascript enabled to view it
